A lieutenant Colonel was found hanging from the railing of the stairs of his apartment in south-west Delhi’s Dwarka on Friday. Police said no suicide note was found and the deceased was depressed due to certain issues in his life.

According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, south-west district, Surender Kumar, the deceased has been identified as 46-year-old lt Col Jagdish Kumar, who used to stay at Salaria Appartments in Dwarka and was posted in Kashmir House in Rajaji Marg.

Police said a call to the police was made in the morning after his neighbour who stays in the apartment noticed the hanging body. A PCR van reached the spot and the Prakash was rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead on arrival by the doctor. “Prima facie it is a suicidal case. The body has been sent for post-mortem and inquest proceedings under section 174 CrPC has been initiated in connection to the matter,” said Kumar.

According to a senior police official, who did not wish to be named, Prakash was a major in military engineering services three years back but was being probed for a misappropriation of fund case.

“Prakash was depressed due to this and used to often wake up in the wee hours of the day,” said the official. Jagdish Prakash was a resident of Kerala and was serving in Corps of Engineers. Further investigation in the matter is on.
