Arms came from Munger

Published on:

The sophisticated weapons used in the murder of former MlA Bharat Singh, alias Bharte, were procured from Bihar’s Munger district, infamous for manufacturing illegal weapons. The key conspirator, Hemant, was arrested by the Delhi Police Special Cell and recovered a huge cache of weapons procured from the same area in 2013. Police said the weapons were also properly checked before use.  Source said the accused had conducted trial to check their range and quality, in an isolated area after getting them from Bihar. Over 10 pistols and two carbines were used in whole operation.

In February 2013, Hemant had purchased Munger-made 10 pistols (.99 mm bore and .32 bore) from one Dhirendar with the help of a middle man from Muzaffarnagar for eliminating Bharte. But, police laid a trap and nabbed Hemant along with two suppliers from Bihar, near Tihar Jail’s gate number 1. Failing in their earlier murderous attempts, Udaiveer and Hemant did not want to miss the chance, this time. “They were desperate to eliminate Bharte and were ready to pay as much amount of money in procuring weapons or hiring sharp shooters. Sources said Hemant also approached a dreaded UP gangster Munna Bajrangi alias Prem Prakash Singh to hire sharp shooters and get the weapons. But the deal did not finalise as Bajrangi, lodged in Sultanpur Jail,  demanded big amount,” said the source. Udaiveer was out on parole and didn’t want to waste time. He hired sharpshooters from UP, Haryana and Punjab with the help of Hemant.

FOUR attackers also hurt in retaliation

According to police, during the attack on Bharte on March 29, four attackers also were injured in retaliation by Bharte’s gunmen — Ramjeevan and Daljeet. On seeing firing at Bharte, Ramjeevan, who is a Delhi Police Head Constable provided as his personal security officer (PSO), pushed Hemant and gripped his neck with his arms. Meanwhile, another attacker Pradhan Sunil opened fire at Ramjeevan and also hit him with his leg. Ramjeevan received a bullet but kept firing at the attackers in which both Hemant and Sunil received two bullets each. Besides, two more attackers received bullet wounds but all were managed to escape in the Scorpio car. Joint Commissioner of Police Ravindra Yadav said all four injured kept running in bullet wounds till Sonipat, where they received first aid.
