In yet another attack on toll plaza attendants, a gang of around a dozen hooligans assaulted an attendant of a commercial toll plaza on the Gurgaon-Pataudi Road and robbed Rs 1.85 lakh cash from there. The Gurgaon Police have registered a case of dacoity and booked 12 unidentified persons in connection with the same. A manhunt has been launched to nab the accused persons.

The incident took place on Monday at around 9.30 pm, but it came to light only on Thursday after an employee released the CCTV footage. The footage showed six men — armed with hockey sticks, iron rods and chains — come in a red beacon-fitted black SUV and thrash toll attendant Ravi before decamping with Rs 1.85 lakh kept in the cash till.

The attackers left the place within half-an-hour. They also assaulted all those present in and around the toll plaza. There were other six, too, sitting in getaway vehicles, including two bikes.

Police said that it was a result of a verbal duel with driver of a tractor, who was forced by the toll plaza employees to pay a levy. The entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras, which shows the attackers kicking and punching the cashier.

“Ravi, the toll plaza employee, has suffered severe injuries on his face. He has been admitted to the Gurgaon Civil Hospital, where doctors have referred him to Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital,” said laxmi Kant, in-charge of the toll plaza.

“We immediately informed the concerned police station about the incident and also handed over the CCTV footage to them. Since police did not take any action, the assailants returned the next day and threatened to kill if they dared approach the police,” laxmi Kant added. A case of physical assault and dacoity on the basis of the toll employees’ statements has been registered. “While some of the accused have been identified, police are trying to identify the others with the help of CCTV footage. A team has been constituted and the incident is being investigated,” said Alok

Mittal, Commissioner of

Police, Gurgaon.

This is not the first attack on toll plaza staff in Gurgaon. In September 2011, a young toll plaza attendant was shot dead by passengers of an SUV when he asked for Rs 27, the toll fee at the Gurgaon Expressway.
