With this move the, SDMC has become the first civic body in the capital city to announce free usage of toilets/washrooms for women and children at all Restaurants and Hotels falling under its jurisdiction.

The SDMC further stated that the facility shall be reviewed on the basis of the, feedback, concerns and practical difficulties faced by the hotels and restaurants in due course.

“For women and children, it is difficult to locate proper washrooms for use.  And due to security concerns, and bars do not allow single males are some reasons to kept male out of this scheme,” said  a SDMC official.

An SDMC official said hotel associations were apprehensive of allowing men as they are more likely to enter drunk. “This would not be good for business if such people have to cross paying customers to reach washrooms located at the rear of the establishment,” he added.
