Delhi Government’s anti- corruption helpline has been flooded with calls and it recorded 3,904 calls till 3.30 pm on Thursday. Analysis of the calls has revealed that 53 were of serious nature while the officials of helpline responded to 824. However, 15 complainants have refused to conduct sting operation against corrupt officials and 38 people agreed to conduct sting operations.
In the first two hours, the helpline has received over 200 calls which forced the Government to increase the capacity. Some of complainants have expressed annoyance as they could not be connected with helpline. Upbeat over the response, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that some of the complainants have conducted sting operations while some of them are still working. Meanwhile, sources said that number of callers have complained against traffic police, MCD, Delhi Jal Board and transport department officials and they wants to do sting operation against them.
Addressing mediapersons, Kejriwal revealed that Delhi Government’s anti-corruption helpline Thursday received “incredible response” with almost 3,904 calls till 3.30 pm after being launched. “Till 3.30 pm, we received 3,904 calls. We did not except such a huge response,” Kejriwal said. However, due the deluge of calls, only 824 calls could be responded to, he said. Of the calls, 53 were of serious corruption cases, he added. Kejriwal said people have conducted “quality” sting operations for which he congratulated them. “Public grievance is a symptom, the disease is something else,” Kejriwal said. He said considering the “huge response”, the Government has decided to increase the number of helpline staff from current 15 officials to 30 by Friday.
The Chief Minister said that no one would be spared if found guilty of graft. Citizens have been asked to dial the helpline number, (011)27357169 between 8 am and 10 pm, for any corruption complaint.
