During the drive, 72 articles, 3 rehris were seized and 5 chappars, 2 tandoors were removed, he said.

He further informed that the action was taken on the direction of “Special Task Force” constituted by the Supreme Court.

The official also said that the anti- encroachment drive conducted from modi mill flyover to Nehru Place and surrounding areas in central Zone. “Two rehris and 15 items/articles were seized while 3 km stretch of footpath was cleared,” the official said.

He further informed that in west zone, action was taken at Raghubir Nagar road in which 11 rehris and 10 items were seized.  While in similar action, the civic body also cleared 230 square meter areas in Najafgarh zone.

The civic bodies in the national capital started sealing businesses since December last year. The official said that there are number of reasons behind conducting sealing and anti encroachment drive in the city.

“One of the reasons is that the common space which was actually meant for the movement of the pedestrians and various other community services were encroached by the occupants to the extent of 12 feet in the front and approximately 30 feet in the rear,” the official said.

All the three municipal corporations have sealed thousands of shops/ properties for number of reasons including unauthorised construction of offices and rooms at different floors and ongoing commercial activities at basement and stilt parking areas, non-payment of conversion charges and encroachment.
