In yet another case of fake currency note dispensed from the SBI ATM in South-East area of Delhi in February, a fake currency note of Rs 2,000 bearing the name of Children Bank of India was dispensed by an ATM of the ICICI bank in lajpat Nagar area of South-East Delhi’s Amar Colony, police said on Thursday.

Denying to link the involvement of the accused in the two strikingly similar cases, a senior police officer said, “It is too early to affirm if the accused in both the cases are same. We will carry out a detailed investigation.”

The incident was reported on March 7 when Chandan, who works in a private company went to the ATM of the ICICI Bank located in front of the Sheetla Mata Mandir Garhi to withdraw cash.

He informed the police that when he punched in the card details, a Rs 2,000 note bearing the imprint of the Children’s Bank of India was dispensed. By the time, he realised that the currency note was fake, his bank account had been debited. Without wasting time, the victim informed the nearest police station.

A senior police officer said, “As against the last time where the Investigating Officer went to the SBI ATM and withdrew a Rs 2,000 note, in this case the Investigating Officer reached the spot and sealed the ATM machine”. To avert any loss, the IO did not withdraw any cash.

Romil Baaniya, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) said, “We have registered a case under section 489C and 489 D of the IPC at the Amar colony police station.

Exactly a month ago, on February 6, Rohit, a customer care executive and a resident of Sangam Vihar had alleged that he had gone to withdraw Rs 8,000, from the State Bank of India ATM located at Tigri area.

Following which the police had registered a case at the Sangam Vihar police station and arrested Mohammad Isha based on the CCTV footage of the ATM vending machine area. Isha was a custodian of the Brinks India Pvt ltd, who worked for SBI ATM.
