The Delhi Police has arrested another activist in connection with raising the false alarm about beef being served at Kerala House canteen. The accused identified as Mohit Rajput was arrested on Thursday following questioning at Connaught Place police station. Police had arrested Vishnu Gupta, a president of Hindu Sena on Wednesday.

Mohit Rajput (25), resident of laxmi Nagar was called for questioning at Connaught Place police station on Thursday morning. He was later put under arrest under the section 107/151 of CrPC and sent to four days of judicial custody, said a police officer.

Police said during investigation it was found that Vishnu Gupta and Mohit Rajput were present outside the Kerala House after making the call about beef being served at the Kerala House canteen on Monday evening. They also tried to create a ruckus while lodging protest outside the House. A police team then entered inside the premises and inspected the matter, said the officer.

On Tuesday, a major row had erupted when Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy condemned the police action terming it a “raid” and “highly objectionable”. The Delhi Police and the Centre also came under attack from Chief Ministers Arvind Kejriwal and Mamata Banerjee. On Wednesday police arrested Gupta.

Gupta has been booked under section 107/151 of CrPC and put under preventive arrest at Connaught Place Police station, said police, adding that on Wednesday he was called for questioning in connection with the matter and later arrested.

Delhi police commissioner Bhim Sain Bassi had defended police action. He had said police team reached to maintain law and order and ensured that nothing untoward happened there. Also, he rejected Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s contention that police raided “Kerala House following a complaint that its canteen was serving beef and described police action as a “preventive measure.”
