AAP MlA from Delhi Cantonment Commando Surinder Singh was arrested on Friday late evening in connection with the case of beating, manhandling and passing castiest remarks on employees of New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), according to police.
Singh was arrested this evening, along with his driver Pankaj and assistant Praveen, when he was called for questioning by the Delhi Police at the Parliament Street Police.
All three were further taken to Ram Manohar lohia for medical examination and likely to remain in the lockup the whole night.
“Ex NSG commando who fought in 26/11 and AAP MlA commando Surinder arrested by Delhi Police for allegedly assaulting NDMC workers,” Deputy CM Manish Sisodia tweeted.
His arrest came following four notices sent to him to join the probe in the August 4 incident in New Delhi’s Tughlak Road area. Commando and his companions had allegedly beaten up NDMC’s beldar Mukesh, who was part of a team that was conducting a routine checkup of encroachment in the locality. Sanitary Inspector RJ Meena, on whose complaint the FIR was lodged, had said the NDMC team was acting against the vendors over encroachment when the MlA arrived and started arguing in favour of him and later beat up Mukesh along with his men.
Also, Meena said Singh passed casteist remarks.
A case was registered against Singh and two other people under Sections 332, 353, 367, 186, 511, 506, 34 of the IPC and SC/ST Act provisions on August 5 at Tughlak Road police station. An ACP level officer is supervising the police probe.
His anticipatory bail was rejected by a city court on August 12. Senior counsel HS Phoolka, who had appeared for Singh, had sought bail saying the MlA has been falsely implicated in the case.
The Prosecutor, however, had argued that Singh has been evading the notices sent by police to join the investigation in the case and his interrogation was required.
Announcing the arrest of MlA Singh, AAP spokesperson said he is being targeted by Delhi Police.
