A ‘Shok Parade’ was organised by Andaman and Nicobar Police on Friday at the “National Police Memorial” in the national Capital. In a simple but solemn ceremony Dependra Pathak, Director General of Police (DGP), Andaman and Nicobar Islands paid tribute to police martyrs by laying a wreath on the central monolith.
Inspector General of Police (Law and Order), Madhup Tiwari, and other senior officers of Andaman and Nicobar Police were also present on the occasion. The gathering also observed a two minute silence in memory of the brave hearts.
The family of Martyr Sub-Inspector Sanjeev of the Andaman and Nicobar Police was also honored during the tribute function. Sanjeev had laid down his life trying to protect citizens caught in the rising waters of the Tsunami of 2004. He managed to save three lives and drowned during his fourth rescue. He was awarded the Kirti Chakra posthumously for his act of Valor.
After viewing the exhibits at the National Police Museum the DGP appreciated the efforts made to reflect the history and traditions of Indian Police and stressed on the need for all police officers to visit the institute and reflect internally.
The National Police Memorial was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year as a memorial for all the brave heart police personnel of the nation. It features the names of all police martyrs of all police forces of the country.
