'Ananya gave his family a raw deal'

Initial investigation into the triple murder-cum-suicide case involving the R&AW official has revealed that strenuous relation of Ananya Chakravarty with his family members and relatives prompted him to take the extreme step.

Police sources said Ananya did not trust his wife and children and had frequent altercations. He even targeted his children for siding with their mother whenever there was any dispute and, sources said, there could be a possibility that he killed his son and daughter after they intervened to save their mother. Corroborating police theory, the younger sister of Jaishri recorded her statement and told police that Ananya was a stubborn and egoistic man. For the last three years, he neither spoke to her family nor visited her home.

Police sources said after registering the murder case against Ananya at Defence Colony police station, two separate investigation teams of special staff of south district and Defence Colony police station have been formed and they have questioned over 200 people in the last 24 hours. “After questioning the neighbours and close friends of Ananya, it has been emerged he was a very stubborn person and used to remain withdrawn from his relatives,” police sources added.

It also came to fore that Ananya, who worked as a clerical staff member in the Cabinet Secretariat, had developed a feeling of isolation since his children supported their mother, Jaishri, in the tiffs between the couple. “On Sunday, police recorded the statement of the younger sister of the victim and she told police, Ananya was an egotist. He never allowed her sister to talk to them and in the last three years, he never allowed her to visit her residence in Kolkata,” police sources said, adding the last time she met him and her sister was at a wedding function of their relative in Kolkata around six months ago.

Investigators are suspecting that the incident occurred in a ‘fit of rage’. Ananya first killed his son Arnab who was sleeping in his room and then murdered his daughter Disha and wife Jaishri who were in the other room. “After questioning the neighbours and relatives, it was learnt that Ananya had anger management issues and there is a strong possibility he killed the children for standing by their mother on Saturday,”

sources added.
