Dairy major Amul has hiked its milk prices by Rs 1 per pouch of half liter in the Delhi-NCR region with effect from Friday.
Amul Managing Director RS Sodhi said the decision to increase the milk prices in Delhi-NCR region is because the procurement prices have increased by 19-20 per cent in last two years. He added that this is first increase in milk prices in the last two years.
Meanwhile, Mother Dairy clarified that it is not increasing prices of milk for now.
“Mother Dairy, as a responsible organisation has always attempted to strike a balance between the consumers’ interest and the milk producers’ interest. As a leading milk supplier in Delhi NCR, we are not increasing the consumer prices of liquid milk currently. It is pertinent to note that the last price increase was taken in May 2014 and we are striving to retain prices while giving competitive and remunerative price to the farmer,” said a Mother Dairy spokesperson.
Mother Dairy procures milk from farmer centric village level organisations.
“Though the farmer prices have been increasing over the past three months due to environmental temperature, summers and season demand by about Rs 2.50/kg, Mother Dairy has been able to absorb the impact. The prices are likely to go up further in coming months. We are keeping a close watch on the milk availability and price situation,” the spokesperson added.
