Amnesty scheme to be extended

The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) on Thursday decided to extend the Amnesty scheme to waive late payment surcharge (lPSC) and 30 per cent rebate on arrears, to domestic water consumers till March 2014.

According to the Amnesty scheme, consumers can pay the arrears by March 31 next year through a maximum of six installments. "Consumers who paid their full arrears by July 31, 2013 will be entitled to a further rebate of 30 per cent on their actual water bill arrears excluding lPSC," the scheme said. In cases related to consumers living in JJ clusters and resettlement colonies, the Amnesty scheme offers unconditional waiver of full lPSC levied on water bills and they will be required to pay only actual arrears as reflected in the current bill.

Further, for single water connections in multi-storied units in the colonies, consumption will be divided among number of floors to provide benefit of floor-wise connections and lower consumption slabs. "Unmetered water connections will be given floor-wise benefit from the date of installation of meter and private water meters can also be installed by consumers as per standards laid down by DJB," the scheme said.

As per data available with the DJB, 1,50,289 domestic water consumers will benefit from the waiver of full lPSC and 2,98,694 water consumers will benefit with 30 per cent rebate on arrears.
