Ammo supply chain busted, three arms dealers held

The Delhi Police Special Cell on Monday claimed to have busted an ammunition supply chain with the arrest of three persons and recovered

as many as 1,800 live cartridges besides 11 sophisticated firearms.

Police said that the ammunition seized was meant for 7.65 mm bore, 0.22 mm bore and 0.315 mm bore guns. The accused have been identified as Ashok Singh (62), Rakesh Sharma (44) and Ajay Sharma (49).

A tip-off was received on Sunday that Ashok Singh, an arms dealer of Etah in Uttar Pradesh, would be coming to Sarai Kale Khan bus station in a white Swift Dzire to meet the receivers. On this, a team camped at the station and spotted Ashok waiting for the receiver.

later, Ashok moved towards Wazirabad on the Ring Road and reached Kashmere Gate where another person boarded his vehicle and they moved towards Gopal Pur. When Ashok stopped the car at a deserted place to deliver the ammunitions, both of them were arrested. Apart from Ashok, Rakesh, who was the receiver of the bag and Ajay, the driver of the car were arrested as well.

During the interrogation, it was revealed that this interstate syndicate is involved in large-scale diversion and supply of legitimate factory-made weapons and munitions to criminals and other unscrupulous users.

Ashok, who owns a gun house in Etah, stores arms and ammunitions as part of his authorised quota from different arms dealers but instead of updating his stock records and submitting

information and compliance to the district authorities about the same, he pilfers the same through a chain of peddlers for high profits.
