The Arvind Kejriwal Government has decided to celebrate 126th birth anniversary of BR Ambedkar on April 14 in a big way in the national Capital’s Talkatora stadium.
The decision becomes significant as Uttar Pradesh and Punjab goes to the polls in the next year and it would be AAP’s way to challenge the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), which projects itself as the messiah of Dalits and lays claim to Ambedkar’s ideals.
On April 20, the AAP Government will celebrate Mahavir Jayanti at Delhi Assembly premises.
According to sources, the Government will be organising a mega event to mark the Ambedkar Birth Centenary at Talkatora stadium on Thursday. On this occasion, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will also felicitate Dalit scholars and writers. The Government has also planned to reintroduce ‘Ambedkar Ratna” awards to Dalits scholars after a gap of three years.
Dalit forms a sizeable 25 per cent of the electorate in Punjab and 26 per cent in Uttar Pradesh. Sources said Kejriwal is trying to project himself as leader of Dalits as UP and Punjab polls are a few months away.
