All the major roads on the premises of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) are now being named after great Indian luminaries and famous personalities.
According to a JNU official, seven roads have been named by now and the sign boards have been installed while rest of the roads would soon be assigned names in the name of famous Indian luminaries.
The famous ring road in JNU has been named after Swami Vivekananda as “Vivekananda Marg.” Swami Vivekananda is the great Indian sage who is credited with professing the Indian philosophy of Vedanta and Yoga to the western world. Similarly, the road towards the JNU's stadium has been named after famous hockey player as Major Dhyan Chand as “Dhyan Chand Marg”.
JNU Registrar, Pramod Kumar says all major roads have been assigned names in the name of famous Indian personalities and the decision to this affect has been taken in the Executive Council (EC) meeting.
“The condition of roads in JNU has been drastically improved and all the roads are now well lit. We are also planning for installing solar lights on the roads,” said Pramod Kumar.
Kumar said that naming of roads will avoid confusion in locating a place or in giving directions.
“Without roads being named it was rather difficult to give direction to someone so that he or she may locate a place. With all major roads inside campus being assigned names this problem will be resolved,” he said.
A student wished that it would be much easier to travel in JNU and locate a place inside the campus if Google would provide the information of JNU roads on Google Map.
likewise, other roads inside the campus have been named. Saheed Bhagat Singh Marg, Aryabhata Marg, APJ Abdul Kalam Marg, Birsa Munda Marg, Subhash Chand Bose Marg, Savitribai Phule Marg etc.
