Sarthak Agarwal, all India topper of CBSE Class XII exam, has taken admission in Delhi University’s prestigious Sri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) in Economics Honours, after sacrificing his seat in St Stephen’s College.

An alumnus of Delhi Public School Vasant Kunj, Sarthak got 99.6 per cent in his Class XII examination and has studied under Science stream. His aim was to get into either SRCC or St Stephen’s College. While he even sat for the Stephen’s interview, the uncertainty of whether his name would appear in the truncated list or not made him eventually submit his documents at SRCC. “I gave the interview at Stephen’s and my name even came in the list. However, the truncated list will be out on Wednesday. Though in most likelihood my name should be in it, I spoke to teachers and relatives and decided on taking admission in SRCC. It is a choice I have made after a lot of deliberation,” said Sarthak who was more than happy to have finally taken admission in one of DU’s top colleges.

While speaking about his experience, Sarthak said that like everyone he was anxious before taking admission in DU. “Even after knowing that I had topped, I was extremely scared about admissions. Till I didn’t submit my fees and get my papers, I had butterflies in my stomach. It’s a natural feeling,” explained Sarthak.

As he reached the SRCC on Tuesday for admission, he was hoarded by several parents and students who congratulated him for his feat. “Parents were asking me how I got 99.6 per cent when their own daughters and sons had got 99 per cent. If I am a topper so are those students,” said Sarthak. Sarthak is at the moment planning to have a career in Civil Services but he may reconsider his decision after college.
