In order to ensure free flow of water and avoid water-logging in its area, South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) claimed to have de-silted all its 246 drains with a total length of 164.38 km.
A senior SDMC official said that the drains have been cleared which was full of hyacinth and floating garbage.
North and east corporations have also stepped up the process of de-silting in its drains. Till now, 90 per cent of de-silting has been done and remaining will be cleared in next 15 days, a senior North corporation official said.
Meanwhile, Mayor of North Delhi Avtar Singh on Friday inspected Kirari area and directed the officers to write to the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) seeking status of water logging in its vacant plots. He also directed officials to clear the water by putting a pump in the area.
Recently, SDMC Mayor Sunita Kangra discussed the issue of desilting and water logging in a high level meeting attended by officials of engineering department & other senior officers and representatives other 11 government agencies to ensure coordination in cleaning drains.
Every year, due to apathy of civic agencies, de-clogging of drains resulted in waterlogged roads disrupt traffic and choked drains overflowing on to the streets and further providing an ideal mosquito breeding ground.
