A 65-year-old man was brutally attacked by his 32-year-old son with a cricket bat at their residence in Rohini district's Vijay Vihar area for refusing to give him money, police said on Tuesday.
According to a senior police officer of the Rohini district, the incident happened on Sunday night at the Budh Vihar Phase-2 area of Vijay Vihar where 65-year-old Bhoma Singh lived with his son and his family.
“On Sunday night, Bhoma Singh had a verbal brawl with his son Kailash over money. Since Kailash was an alcoholic, he was asking for the money which his father Bhoma Singh had taken for selling their house. For the past several days, the father-son duo used to often quarrel over the money.
On Sunday night, Kailash asked his father to give him money but the elderly man declined. The verbal altercation escalated that Bhoma Singh kicked his son out of their house. A few hours later, Kailash returned, went into his father’s room and started hitting his father with a cricket bat. On hearing Bhoma’s cries, his daughter-in-law lalita, who was sleeping in another room rushed to his father-in-law’s help.
Kailash fled from the spot while his wife, who is employed at the Sanjay Gandhi Memorial hospital rushed his father-in-law to the hospital.
Police sources said that the elderly man has sustained grievous injuries and is stated to be in a critical condition.
Meanwhile, police said that they have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code against Kailash at the Vijay Vihar police station. Efforts are on to nab the accused, added police.
