AISA-CYSS alliance devoid of coordination

Published on:

Although AAP's student wing CYSS and left wing All India Students' Association (AISA) have entered into an alliance for DUSU elections, ground level workers of both the students' wing lack coordination among themselves.

The workers of both the party admitted that the formation of alliance is visible only at the upper level while there seems to lack of coordination among students at the college and the ground level when it comes to “campaigning” and making “joint strategy”.

DUSU  poll watchers  said absence of coordination among AISA-CYSS might prove detrimental to their interests and that is most likely to reflect on their total vote percentage.

Eyeing on a similar type of vote-bank that comprises mainly of students hailing from far-off States and those who stay in hostels and paying guest accommodation, the lack of coordination and joint strategy between their ground workers may not fetch them the winning percentage of vote the alliance is expecting. AISA will contest for the post of president and vice-president while CYSS on secretary and joint secretary.

“This is not the way how elections are fought. There is lack of discussion, planning, coordinated and joint campaigning at the ground level. All that is discussed or planned appears to remain at the upper level only and is yet to percolate down to the grass root level. We are working as if we are contesting the elections independently,” said a Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS) worker, requesting anonymity.

AISA-CYSS released their joint manifesto on Sunday in which they promised violence free campus and end to hooliganism. While AISA's support base mainly comprises of students who are from outside Delhi, big political players like ABVP and NSUI are backed by local dominant communities like Gujjar's and Jats along with others.

A senior student leader of AISA said that the combine campaign is going on in colleges and will start on full-fledge scale from 4 September onwards .He said that a “coordination team” of AISA-CYSS comprising of about dozen senior members is working on every aspect related to elections. DUSU elections are due on 12 September while last date of nomination is 4 September.

While CYSS revealed the names of 4 probable candidates for two seats of secretary and joint secretary it is contesting, AISA has not disclosed its cards. CYSS is considering the names of Sunny Tawar, Chandramani Dev, Rohit Yadav and Punam Kumari for the post of secretary and joint secretary, told a senior CYSS functionary.

According to political pundits, the AISA-CYSS coalition is mainly eyeing on “non-local” votes particularly of students from eastern UP and Bihar while both ABVP and NSUI are giving prominence to candidates from local communities in their poll panel. Ignoring popular “Purvanchali” faces might cost dearer to ABVP and NSUI in elections as votes of these “outside Delhi” students may polarize in favor of AISA-CYSS.

According to top sources within NSUI and ABVP, the four probable candidates of CYSS are Sunny Tawar, Chandramani Dev, Rohit Yadav and Punam Kumari.
