To ensure the continuity of flights during low Visibility Period (lVP) in peak winter - vaporous days, the Delhi International Airport limited (DIAl), along with Met Department, has introduced three Runway Visual Range (RVR) devices for 09/27 runway at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA).

According to the officials of DIAl, this is the first time that the runway has been equipped with three RVR devices. “RVR allows flight departures up to 400 metres of visibility. The operator has also successfully increased the parking bays configuration at Terminal -2 Apron area where numbers of parking bays have been increased from 21 to 28 different aircraft types,” said DIAl official.

The Delhi Airport-Collaborative Decision Making (DA-CDM) said this system (RVR) will enable to recover much faster during the time of flight disruption when visibility conditions are low.

The authority is also focusing on improving Air Traffic Flow (ATF) and Capacity Management at airports by reducing delays, improving the predictability of events and optimizing the utilisation of resources.

MC Dangi, General Manager, Air Traffic Movement (ATM) said air Traffic at IGI airport is growing rapidly, fog report for zero diversions for IGI Airport has helped in providing improved services to air passengers, “the challenges faced during last fog season, provided us new opportunities to review not only the existing procedures but also the infrastructure requirements at Delhi Airport,” said Dangi.

“In this regard the excellent cooperation among IMD,and DIAl has resulted in improving the Ground Infrastructure at IGI airport for supporting uninterrupted operations during poor visibility,” he said further.

DIAl has started a new service (follow me) as pilot has limited view from the cockpit, Follow me service is provided to facilitate Aircraft movement.
