Delhi Minister Gopal Rai has reportedly met with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and requested to relieve him of his duties as the Transport Minister citing health reasons.
The meeting was held last Sunday where Rai has reportedly told Kejriwal that since the Transport Department had a very heavy workload, he would not be able to do justice to the work in his present condition. Rai who currently holds charge of the employment, Develo-pment, labour, Transport, General Administration Depa-rtment and Irrigation and Flood Control Departments recently underwent a surgery to get a bullet removed from his neck.
Insiders said Rai is considered one of most efficient Ministers of the Delhi Government. “Kejriwal is not going to relieve Rai. There is possibility that some Departments may be given to other Ministers for the time being or till Rai recovers fully,” said insiders.
Rai has been undergoing physiotherapy at the Indian Spinal Injuries Centre and is housed in the hospital.
Rai had undergone surgery in early May to remove the bullet lodged in his neck when he was shot at in lucknow University during a student agitation some 17 years ago.
