The Centre on Wednesday dispatched a team of four doctors from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to treat patients who suffered burn injuries in an explosion at the Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) in Chhattisgarh, officials said.

The team of doctors was led by Dr Maneesh Singhal, Head of Department (HOD), Department of Burns and Plastic Surgery, AIIMS.

“We have examined the patients. They are recovering so there is no plan to bring them to Delhi. They are being taken good care of, so they don’t need to be brought here,” said Dr Singhal. The other team members are Dr Shashank Chauhan, Dr Ritesh Bazaz and Dr Amit Srivastava

Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, J P Nadda assured full support to the state government of Chhattisgarh, sources said on Wednesday. “The team of doctors has reached the hospital there to take stock of patients and assist doctors there in the treatment of patients,” the source said.

Eleven people died and 14 others were injured in the gas pipeline blast at the plant of the state-owned Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) in Drug district on Tuesday.
