The vector-borne disease has gripped the doctors and other employees of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences. Nearly 10 people including staff, faculty and employee's children have been hospitalised for dengue treatment under Employee Health Scheme (EHS).

According to the hospital source, AIIMS authorities have failed to take up the precautionary measures to tackle the vecto- borne disease as the number of cases are rising at a breakneck speed in the national Capital.

"Since dengue cases are on the rise, dengue preventive measures are not being followed in the hospital due to which hospital staff is suffering. If doctors are not keeping well, when who will look after the patients," said a source.

last week, the son of an employee of the institute died of dengue. The boy's family alleged that he could have been saved if the doctors did not show negligence while attending their child.

Earlier, The Pioneer had reported that New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) had issued challans to AIIMS and RMl thrice after mosquito-genic conditions were found inside the hospital premises. "The presences of aedes mosquito breeding grounds have been spotted at several pockets within the AIIMS and RMl campus," said NDMC official.

In a related development, the RMl hospital has started 35-bed capacity ward especially for the dengue patients.  "As many as 268 patients have been given treatment in the hospital till date and over 84 patients are still admitted here," said the RMl official. With the increasing number of patients, we have started 35 beds capacity ward only for the dengue patients, the official added.
