AIIMS dispels all myths about autism

Published on:

While celebrating the autism awareness month, the Department of Paediatrics in All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) conducted an autism awareness programme on Thursday for patient education and general awareness where they discussed recent modalities of management and information available for autistic patients.

As per an INClEN study, autism affects around 14 out of 1000 children, aged between two to nine years, in India, and AIIMS at present is dealing with 600 cases of autism. However, India is not the only country with such high cases of autism. It is on the rise globally with one in every 68 children in USA gripped by this developmental disorder in children that makes communicating and interacting with other people difficult.

“Autism is not a disease but a condition in which a child needs more care and attention of parents. Every child is special and different and has some special abilities which need to be highlighted properly,” said Dr MC Mishra, Director, AIIMS.
