Ahmad reveals roadmap for Jamia Millia

With just six years before Jamia Millia Islamia completes 100 years of existence, Vice Chancellor Talat Ahmad has already chalked out a roadmap to make it nationally renowned for academic excellence. His first agenda is to decentralise the administration of the university and provide a good environment for students to live in. He aims to delegate work instead of burdening one person. He has also started the process of increasing hostels for girls, working women and boys on the campus. “According to students, the ideal atmosphere for them would be when most students stay on campus like in Jawaharlal Nehru University . Thus, I am trying to get funds to assure that students stay on campus,” said Ahmad.

The VC is also planning to make Madarsa schooling mainstream and will sign an MoU with the Ministry of Minority Affairs on November 11.

Additionally, Ahmad has initiated the process of decentralising the entire administration of the university. He explained, “I am making separate sections for everything. So far all information was coming to me from the Registrar. But now there will be a separate section for academics, research, administrations and so on. This will help improve efficiency.”

He also wants to introduce the system of second and third ranks so that in case a staff member leaves all of a sudden, there is no crisis. “With many people involved, there will be a person who will take over if rank one leaves. I have also said that if any staff member is unhappy with this system, they can leave as it is of no use that anyone works unhappily,” said Ahmad.
