The much-awaited three-level parking lot at Model Town was inaugurated on Friday by senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi. Built by the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NMC) at a cost of Rs 21 crore, the car park can accommodate 110 four-wheelers. The Corporation has expedited the process of inaugurating projects of public significance keeping in view the Assembly polls, notification for which can be issued any time soon.

leaders of the North Delhi Corporation said another multi-level parking lot at Kamla Nagar was also ready and would be opened to public in some time. Developed over an area of 4,498 sq. metre, the parking space is earthquake resistant. It has a ventilation system with sensors and a fire detection mechanism in place. Besides, the car park is also equipped with energy efficient lighting, a paved area for community meets, CCTV at entry and exit points and stand-by power backup.

While inaugurating the facility, Joshi appreciated the efforts of the BJP-ruled civic body saying such projects prove beneficial to the public at large. He, however, said increasing vehicular population in the city was a matter of concern even though civic bodies have been taking up various projects to tackle the problem more effectively. Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel too termed the parking lot a key project that would help in decongesting the roads in and around Model Town.

“After the medical college and the Model Town parking lot, an auditorium with a seating capacity of 924 people at Civic Centre and Kamla Nagar parking will also be inaugurated in the next few days. The auditorium has been named after the former Mayor of Delhi, Kedar Nath Sahni,” said Mahendra Nagpal, leader of the House in North Corporation.
