A manager of an Agra-based jewellery showroom was robbed of Rs. 1.15 crore in cash at the Greater Noida expressway near the Mahamaya flyover here on Tuesday night.

Mohan Bhatt and driver Ibrahim were on their way to Delhi from Agra in a Swift Dzire car when the armed men waylaid them. The suspects got in and forced the victims to drive towards an isolated place. They then snatched the cash and some other articles before leaving the duo, with the car, near Surajpur railway crossing.

A case has been registered at Sector 39 police station in this regard and investigations were on.

It appears that the robbers had prior information about the cash and were aware of the the car that the victims were travelling in.

The incident took place at around 12.00 am on Wednesday when the victim's sedan was started being tailed by a Santro. The armed men in the Santro - four in total -- forced the car to stop shortly after the HCl building, a few hundred metres from the Mahamaya flyover.

Two of them forcibly entered the manager's car and instructed the driver to follow the Santro at gunpoint. The robbers then looted the Rs. 1.15 kept beneath the seat of the car and also snatched the victims' mobile phones. The victims approached Sector 39 police station at around 5 pm on Wednesday and filed a case against four unidentified robbers.

Mohan is a resident of Uttarakhand and is working as a manager in Shailesh Jewelry in Agra. On Tuesday evening, he took ornaments worth Rs 1.15 crore from the showroom and delivered it to Sushil Dalal, a trader in Agra. The victim left for the national capital to hand over the cash to Sanjay, another jewellery trader, in Chandni Chowk in New Delhi.

"As it is a major incident, we have analyzed the crime scene and re-enacted the event to know the exact sequence that led to the robbers zeroing in on the car. The manager and the driver of the car are also under scanner and their role is also being investigated. If required, we will question Shushil Dalal and Sanjay as they had prior information regarding money,” said Yogesh Singh, Superintendent of Police (City), Noida.
