Agents fleecing patients at GB Pant Hospital

Patients coming for treatment at Delhi Government-run GB Pant Hospital are being forced to fork out more for blood tests by agents. They take advantage of the hapless patients, who stand in the long queues for diagnostic services and delayed reports, to get it done soon. Hospital authorities have lodged an FIR with the police and sought probe into the matter.

Recently, the GB Pant Hospital administration received complaints from patients on such rackets operating in the hospital. Speaking to The Pioneer, GB Pant Hospital medical superintendent Dr SP Jayant said, “We received complaints on patients being charged Rs700 for blood tests. We have put the lists on display for the blood tests available at the hospital.” The hospital staffers have denied any insider hand in the racket, he added.

Meanwhile, the Administration has registered an FIR with the police and urged them to take against the gang operating on the premises, said Jayant.A patient’s family member said, “These agents promise reports in lesser time than the hospital. They charged Rs700 for regular blood tests. Worried patients’ family members often end up going for these services.”

He said that the private firms have put up their counter for the blood test in the presence of the doctors. The patient’s relative further added that, senior doctors are aware of the rackets being run. We have complained to the authorities and also on the anti-corruption helpline.
