Taking a cue from Noida traffic police's initiative, Uttar Pradesh Traffic Directorate have launched a similar survey programme namely 'UP Traffic Survey 2015-Your Opinion Counts' in major cities in UP. Also, they have planned to bring a uniform Traffic Mobile App in high tech cities, including Noida, to communicate traffic issues to the daily commuters. The app would be expected to be launch in the next four months.
A Noida-based consultant is working to design this modern app which would provide services like traffic advisory, traffic alerts, complaints and suggestions from daily commuters.
Additional Director General, Uttar Pradesh, Anil Kumar Agrawal told the Pioneer that the survey conducted by Noida police was really inspiring for researching traffic issues. "We have also launched it in whole of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday. We are receiving good response from commuters on Face book and Twitter and we will improve the reported issues accordingly," he said.
"Around 172 commuters, who had approached Noida traffic police during their survey, had highlighted important traffic issues in the city and given their suggestions. The complaints were mostly about non-functional traffic signals and road engineering issues there. We have communicated the reported issues to the Noida Authority officials to take action," he said.
Explaining about the app, he explained, "Traffic police would provide diversion details with traffic movement maps during any occasion or festival/religious program through the app. Also, we would ask commuters to communicate their complaints and suggestions through this app to help solve traffic issues."
ADG Traffic said, "The app would also provide information like traffic blockage, jams, signals failures, accidents etc on their route. Also, the app would suggest alternate routes to reach their destinations."
"A Noida-based software engineer is developing mobile app module based on suggestions of Noida traffic police. We would float a tender to finalise the contract to make it functional," Agrawal said.
On August 28, an online survey was conducted in Noida inviting commuter's complaints and suggestions on social platforms like Facebook and Twitter. The department has so far received 172 suggestions and complaints regarding faulty traffic signals, unauthorised parking, wrong side driving, etc. However, some people also complained about poor policing claiming that
traffic constables were missing from the busy traffic
signals and even if they were present, they did not do their duties properly.
Ram Nayan Yadav, S P Traffic, Noida said, "We have scrutinized all these suggestions and complaints regarding road engineering and traffic signal and forwarded the survey report to higher authorities. We are holding meeting with Noida Authority to resolve these issues on priority basis."
