After the arrest of Sanjay Sachdev, the chairman of “Love Commandos”, an non-governmental organisation (NGO), Delhi Commission of Women (DCW) has received a slew of written complaints and multiple calls in a span of four days. The complaints included a couple based in the United Kingdom who accused Sachdev of committing torture, extortion, confinement, seizing their documents and more.
According to the Commission, in the last few days, they received numerous emails and calls from couples suffering at the hands of Sachdeva and his associates Harsh and Sonu. The complaints show that the pattern of torture was similar-extortion, confinement, seizure of documents, forceful consumption of liquor, mental torture through use of abusive language and demand for money, they said.
“The Commission is deeply shocked at the growing instances of complaints against the NGO Love Commando. The NGO owner Sachdev capitalised the popularity he gained through the television show 'Satyamev Jayate' and furthered his evil intentions. In the name of helping young couples, he ran an extortion racket and exploited their vulnerability. I hope that Delhi Police thoroughly investigates the matter and strongest action is taken against Sachdev and his cronies,” DCW Chairperson Swati Maliwal said.
The couples allegedly told the commission that Sachdev seized their marriage certificates, date of birth certificates, college degrees, Adhaar and more. He made the women perform all the household activities while asking for money.
“The couples who were able to pay more money on demand got their papers back and were allowed to leave the Shelter. The rest were confined in the shelter and were abused,” DCW spokesperson stated in their official release, adding that they have forwarded the complaints to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Mandeep Randhawa.
