A day after the Ghaziabad Police claimed to have bust a sex racket, with the detention of 56 adult couples, the SSP on Sunday suspended two personnel, while another was sent to the district lines for dereliction of duty.

Investigation has revealed that amazingly, only four couples were the part of sex racket, while 52 were released from custody late on Saturday itself. A senior police officer said Bajaria Police post in charge Devendra Singh and the beat constable have been suspended, while a constable has been accused of dereliction of duty. A departmental inquiry has been ordered against them.

"The raid was conducted on the complaint of neighbours who were suspicious about the number of couples at a hotel. A raid led to 112 persons being detained from the spot. Most of the arrested were from a particular community," said Superintendent of Police (City) Shiv Shankar Yadav. He added that after questioning, it was found that only four couples were involved with the sex racket. They, along with the hotel receptionist, have been arrested under the Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act. On Saturday night, Aam Aadmi Party activists protested near the Kotwali Police post against 'breach of privacy of common people'. The police dismantled the dharna site and forced them to disperse. Nonetheless, 52 couples were released that very night.

The City SP admitted that investigation revealed that many of the couples were either married or friends. "The rural Ghaziabad Police remains a bit narrow-minded but being close to the Capital, towns are bound to imbibe the western culture. lower and middle ranking policemen come from the rural side of the country and are unaware of city lifestyle," said Vineet Sharma, the president of the Social Awareness Society.
