A 16-year-old student of a Government school in South-East Delhi’s Jamia Nagar allegedly attempted suicide by jumping off the third floor of the school building on Wednesday morning. Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim’s father was called by her principal for some meeting as she was afraid of her father’s ire; she jumped off the third floor of her school building. The girl, a Class XI student of Sarvodya Kanya Vidyalaya, Noor Nagar is recuperating at the AIIMS Trauma Centre.

According to the police, the incident took place around 11am during the recess time. The victim’s father Farid who works as a vendor reached the school to meet the teachers. “Her classmates told us that the victim was scared ever since she came to the school and on knowing that her father was called to the school she panicked more,” said a police official. As soon as the news of her father entering the school spread she ran to the third floor and reportedly jumped off the building.  No case has been registered. However, an enquiry has been ordered. “The girl is unfit for statement and things would be clear once the girl tells us the exact reason,” the police said.
