A 26-year-old Afghan national, who works as a singer at a hotel in south-east Delhi’s lajpat Nagar, was allegedly sexually assaulted by an Afghan man. Police said the accused identified as Qazi, also used to work in the same hotel.
The accused had taken the victim for a drive where he had given a spiked drink to her saying it would cure a skin problem she was suffering from. After drinking it, she lost consciousness and later woke up naked in the room of the accused and discovered that she was sexually assaulted. The accused told her not to complain to police or else he would pour acid on her or may even harm her two kids (One son and one daughter).
The victim in her statement said that she is regularly receiving threats from the alleged person and there is likelihood that she or her two children might be harmed by the accused if she complains to the police.
A Delhi court has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police, south-east district Romil Baaniya and the SHO of lajpat Nagar to provide adequate security to the victim and speed up investigation, as she now has lodged a complaint to the police.
Police said, the victim had come to India with her children with a refugee (UNHCR) status a year ago and started working as a singer at a hotel in lajpat Nagar. There she was introduced by her friend Nargis to two men, Quaiz and Waiz, both residents of lajpat Nagar 1, near Chota Phatak.
Accused Waiz started taking interest in the victim and at a party one day, he forced her to dance and also started introducing her to people as his girlfriend, which the victim objected.
The accused also got gifts for the victim’s daughter on her birthday and gifted her a black dress on Valentine’s Day hoping that she would give in his demand of being in a relationship.
When nothing worked out, the accused took the woman out for a drive on April 9 this year and gave her a spiked drink.
“I was doubtful about the drink but Qazi kept telling me that if I drank it my skin problem would be solved. I saw a glass in his hand too. After a while, he forced me to drink it. I felt dizzy after a while and lost consciousness. When I woke up I found myself in a room without clothes. I started crying and Qazi was also there. I was raped by him. He threatened me not to report the matter or else he would throw acid on me, kill me and even harm my children. He even said that he has obscene pictures and videos of me which he will sell or circulate if I report the matter. I have a recordings of the conversations over the phone where Qusi is threatening me,” the victim said in her statement.
However, Police said no arrests have been made so far in connection to the case.
