There was chaos outside the Campus of Open learning on Thursday after details regarding admissions were uploaded on the website. While students flocked in large numbers outside the gate of the School of Open learning (SOl) to inquire about admissions, the administration did not allow anyone entry and instead opened a small counter through the wall railing to address queries. This led to students fighting with the guards at the gate and a huge mob gathered outside the campus. According to the administration of SOl, they never expected students to come to the campus since all the information has been made available online. “We will be making proper arrangement only from June 25 when the offline sale of prospectus begins. Students should come to us only then as right now it is of no use,” said a senior official at SOl. In the past months there has been a lot of controversy surrounding SOl in regard to the ongoing three year undergraduate programme in the school which contradicts the four-year undergraduate programme (FYUP) of the Delhi University. However, in spite of several delays and repeated misinformation being spread, no change has been made in the programme structure of the institution. The admission process at SOl has been simplified for many now since the online forms will come free for cost. The online form will be made available from June 17, while the sale of forms offline will begin June 25. Executive director of SOl HC Pokhriyal said, “The university has finally given approval to the undergraduate programme and the dates have been finalised. For those applying online it will be free and for those filling offline forms, they will have to pay Rs100.” The last date of receipt of applications for admission is August 21. However, from August 22 to September 15, a late fee of
Rs200 will be charged.
