The Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) administration has slammed the students who are on a hunger strike demanding conversion of their part time B.E course into a full-fledged one. The striking students have allegedly blocked the entrance by locking one of the gates of the University and have also “disturbed” the classes.
Professor Saima Saeed , Media coordinator JMI through a Press release informed that the gate number 7 of the university which provides access to faculties of Natural Sciences, Social Sciences and the Central library has been locked by the striking students.
“There are certain disruptive forces who are trying to foment trouble by disturbing the classes and overall peaceful environment of the university,” said the Press release.
The JMI is running a B.E. (Part time) course along with regular B. Tech. course in the Faculty of Engineering & Technology. The B.E. (Part time) course was started in the year 1979 to supplement the additional qualification for Diploma Engineering holders who are already in job/employment. However the B.E. (Part time) students are agitating for conversion of their course into a full-fledged one.
“The Dean and Heads of Departments of Engineering Faculty and Dean Students' Welfare held a meeting with All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), the nodal agency of the Government of India for technical education and JMI is waiting for their response as to the modalities of conversion of the course from part-time into a full-time program,” stated the press release from University.
It further added that few students, despite knowing that the matter is pending now with AICTE, went ahead by design on a hunger strike, disturbed the classes and locked the entrance Gate no.7 of the university which provides access to faculties of Natural Sciences, Social Sciences and the Central library.
JMI has appealed to its regular students to be “aware of the factual position” and not be “misguided by vested elements” and help in maintaining the healthy academic ambience on campus.
