In a major development, the Crime Branch of Delhi Police has summoned the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Joy Tirkey, to join investigation in connection with the infamous Nehru Place shootout where three police personnel, including Head Constable, Amit Tomar opened fire on a team from the Crime Branch. It was Tirkey who had requisitioned the services of HC Tomar from the Crime Branch and posted him with the special team of South East district
The accused HC Tomar was not cooperating with investigators even after sustained three-day interrogation. The Crime Branch investigators have not recovered the hard disk of the complainant Sanjay Kumar Thakur, a Jaitpur-based travel agent. But it has now been revealed that the then Additional DCP (South-East district) Tirkey was providing shelter to Tomar and he has been transferred to the recruitment cell of Delhi Police from South-East Delhi.
It may be recalled that controversial HC Tomar was posted with the special investigation team (SIT) of Crime Branch in Rohini, but after the transfer of Tirkey, he was called to the South-East district and then posted with the specially constituted team under the Additional DCP Tirkey. “Investigators now wanted to ascertain that why Tirkey called HC Tomar from SIT to South-East district.
We also wanted to know why he had made special team of South-East district under the supervision of Tomar and provided him a separate office in Nehru Place police post,” a senior police officer said, on condition of anonymity. Meanwhile, HC Tomar was produced before a Saket court on Saturday and his three-day police remand was extended.
HC Tomar and Sub-Inspector Nagender Tomar are the prime accused in the infamous shootout and extortion case. They had allegedly fired on a Crime Branch team that had gone to investigate a case of extortion. Investigators are currently probing the case of extortion concerning the abduction of Sanjay Kumar Thakur.
It has now been revealed that HC Tomar was spearheading an extortion racket and had extorted money from people by threatening to implicate them in false cases. During interrogation, Tomar revealed facts that the call detail records (CDR) unit of South-East district was run by him from his office at Nehru Place police post.
