Regional Transport Office (RTO) of Gautambudh Nagar district has announced to exempt entry tax on commercial vehicles for 7 days during Asian Development Bank’s Summit. The announcement to this effect was made by the RTO after receiving go-ahead from the UP Transport Department. The vehicles, approaching towards Expo Centre, will not pay entry tax from April 30 to May 6.

According to an estimate, around 1,000 vehicles will get benefit everyday causing a loss of more than Rs1 crore to the Government Exchequer during the seven-day period. Apart from the motor vehicles of guests, taxis, trucks and tempos laden with goods, buses, and other commercial vehicles, concerned to summit, will also avail benefit of this special exemption.

A senior official of RTO Department said that initially it was decided to collect State entry tax from all means of transportation coming from national Capital but later the plan was abandoned keeping in view the importance of the occasion. “As the summit is an international event, we have decided to provide a hassle free visit to the delegates participating in it. We had written a letter to the State Transport Department earlier in this regard and urged them to provide more personnel for tax collection. But later it was decided to let off entry free, so that the delegates could not face any kind of difficulty during the meet,” said Rachna Yaduvanshi, Additional RTO of Gautambudh Nagar.

To identify the vehicles going at the ADB place, the department has decided to fix stickers on every vehicle coming from Mayur Vihar Phase-III and approaching towards express highway because the organisers are unable to provide us the details of the vehicles that will be used to carry the delegates and will serve other purposes too.
