ACP booked for slapping girl

Delhi Police has registered a case against Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) BS Ahlawat, who had assaulted a girl at Swami Dayanand Hospital, while protesting against the rape of the five-year-old girl. ACP Ahlawat, who was posted at the Khajuri Khas sub-division, had been suspended within minutes of slapping a girl on camera. The girl, along with others, was protesting against the lax police response after the minor’s rape.

A senior police officer said that the case was registered following the complaint of 17-year-old girl Beenu Rawat. “A case was registered on Wednesday evening under Section 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) of IPC at GTB Enclave police station of North-East Delhi,” the officer added.

On Monday, Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar had said that he was ready to register a criminal complaint against the ACP who was caught assaulting a woman protester on camera. The incident occurred on last Friday when a group of protesters was trying to stop the Delhi Health Minister AK Walia to enter the hospital where the five-year-old rape victim was admitted.

“Instead of stopping the criminals such as rapists for committing the crime, they gifted me with physical attack. The ACP hit me so hard while pushing me away that my ear started bleeding. It will not stop me from protesting against the system. I am still strong-willed to stage my protest,” said Beenu Rawat, the protester.
