Two unidentified bike-borne assailants threw acid on a 30-year-old woman doctor on Tuesday morning in West Delhi’s Rajouri Garden area. The accused persons also snatched the woman’s bag. However, police officials suspect they did this to misguide the men in uniform. According to police, the incident took place around 9.30 am in Rajouri Garden market when the woman had left home and was on her way to ESI Hospital where she worked in the same area. “Suddenly, two men reached the spot on a bike and the pillion rider threw an acid-like aqueous solution on her. The victim sustained burns and was rushed to the same hospital where she worked. From there she was referred to AIIMS,” said a senior police official.
The attackers have not been identified as yet and efforts are on to trace them. The entire incident has been captured on CCTV cameras installed in the market. Investigators are also questioning her friends and colleagues to determine whether she had any personal enmity or somebody nursed a grudge against her.
The victim’s father is a DIG in the paramilitary forces and hails from Punjab. Stop Acid Attacks also staged a protest after the incident in the afternoon.
