ACB summons Waqf Board's ex-chief Khan

The Anti-Corruption Branch has summoned Delhi Waqf Board's former chairman Amanatullah Khan in connection with the “recruitment scam” in the body, constituted by the Kejriwal Government that was dissolved by lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung last week.

Khan has been asked to join the enquiry and be present in the ACB office in Civil lines on Friday afternoon, said an official.

“We received two complaints against Khan, one from BJP leader and RTI activist Vivek Garg and another from Mohammad Mustafa alleging that recruitments were made without following due procedure. Khan will be questioned tomorrow in connection with Garg's complaint,” said the official.

Khan has constantly alleged ACB of targeting him on the “behest of lt Governor” for unearthing “scams” by previous chairmen of Delhi Waqf Board under Sheila Dikshit regime.

Of late, Delhi Waqf Board has been in the news for all the wrong reasons.

Jung had declared the reconstitution of the board, quashing all appointments made by Khan on October 7.

Khan had said the l-G's order will be challenged in court.

“In view of the deliberate and persistent acts of illegality, violation of rules, allegations of corruption, possibility of malafide etc, the whole matter related to Delhi Waqf Board is referred to the CBI for investigation,” the l-G office had said in a statement.
