ACB controversy lingers despite HC intervention

A day after the Delhi High Court declined to issue directions restraining ACB Joint Commissioner of Police Mukesh Kumar Meena from entering his office as sought by the Delhi Government, the war of attrition over the control of the ACB refused to die down on Tuesday. The Director Vigilance of Delhi Government issued an order re-instating Vinay Malik as the SHO of ACB police station. Malik was removed by Meena on Monday and was replaced by Brijmohan.

Director (Vigilance) Sukesh Kumar Jain also advised Meena to refrain from passing such unauthorised orders in future. Delhi Police sources said that the Director Vigilance has no locus standi over the transfer and posting of officers in the ACB as that was the sole prerogative of the competent authority and that is ACB chief. The Director (Vigilance) enjoys just the supervisory role, they said.

Sources also said that the Delhi Government is trying every bit to derail ACB under Meena and has been putting impediment on one pretext of other. According to police sources, the order issued by Jain is being viewed as an intrusion into the authority of the ACB chief.

Cancelling order issued by Meena regarding ACB SHO, Jain on Tuesday reinstated ACB Inspector Vinay Malik as SHO of ACB Police Station. “As per allocation of business rules, 1993, notified vide notification No. F 57/1/92 - S.I/Vol.III dated 1.12.1993, Anti Corruption Branch is a part of Directorate of Vigilance, Government of NCT of Delhi.
