The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad’s (ABVP) candidate Aryan Mann has gained significant momentum in the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections, with strong backing from khaps, political leaders, and student groups.
Mann, a Master’s student in Library Science at Delhi University, has been fielded by ABVP for the post of president. Known for raising student-centric issues, he has promised initiatives ranging from subsidised metro passes and large-scale placement fairs to mental health counsellors in every college, increased scholarships, and improved support systems for students.
His candidature has received major support from powerful khaps, including the Dalal, Chillar Chikara, Sangwan of Dadri, and Palam Khap of Delhi. The Mann family’s social influence, rooted in Aryan’s late grandfather Chand Mann’s leadership of the Lova Saatrah Khap and continued by his uncle Ashok Mann, has also played a pivotal role in consolidating this support.
Bahadurgarh MLA Rajesh June, an Independent, has openly campaigned for Mann, directing his workers to reach out to DU students and appeal for votes. Several local leaders, including former chairman Ravi Khatri, Naresh June, and Arun Khatri of the Congress, have also endorsed him through social media. Community organisations such as the Mahavir Mandir Society in Bahadurgarh have joined the chorus of support.
Students across hostels and campuses appear to be rallying behind Mann. DU alumnus Sahil Garg said it was the first time a candidate had placed student welfare issues at the forefront of the election, expressing confidence in Mann’s leadership.
