The Delhi Police on Sunday claimed to have rescued a seven-year-old boy within 48 hours of abduction and arrested two kidnappers. The minor boy was kidnapped from outside the Sai Mandir by a woman in Southeast Delhi's lodhi Colony area. Police said the woman, a daily wage labourer, was missing her two children and on finding the child she could not resist herself and took the boy.

During interrogation, the accused woman confessed after separating from her husband, she was not allowed to meet her two children. On February 8, she spotted the seven-year-old boy near the Sai Mandir. Finding him alone, she thought of kidnapping him.

A senior police officer said it was through the help of a woman, part of the Eyes and Ears scheme of the Delhi Police that the police found out whereabouts of the kidnappers and rescued the boy.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Vijayanta Arya said, “We have arrested the two accused- Radha and her brother-in-law, Bhajan Singh and safely rescued the boy.”

Police said that the case was reported to them on February 9, a day after the boy was kidnapped from outside the Sai Baba Mandir on lodhi Road.

A team under SHO lodhi Colony was formed. Sensing the gravity of the case, technical surveillance was mounted. “While scanning through the CCTV footages of the Mandir that a woman was seen holding the child, this information was further developed and while showing the photograph of the kidnapper that a woman, part of the Eyes and Ears scheme admitted to having seen the woman along with the child and a man. On February 10 at 4.30 pm, police received a tip-off about Bhajan Singh. He admitted to having kidnapped the child along with the woman. At his instance, the police team raided the jhuggi near the Jangpura metro station where the child was kept.

“During interrogation, Radha said that she is a native of Morena. She has two children with her husband. But after having some dispute with her husband, she left his house and came to Delhi with her brother-in-law Bhajan Singh. As her husband didn’t give her the custody of any of her child, when she saw the victim outside Sai Baba Mandir, lodhi Road, she kidnapped and took him at her jhuggi near MTNl building near Jangpura Metro Station,” said Arya.
