AAP's student wing CYSS may ally with AISA in DUSU polls

Published on:

In a significant development that can have a bearing in the politically surcharged Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) election, due in coming September, the Chhatra Yuva Sangarsh Samiti (CYSS), the youth wing of ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and ultra left All India Student Association (AISA) may join hands to defeat National Students Union of India (NSUI) of Indian national Congress and  Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) backed Akhil Bharti Vidyarti Parishad (ABVP).

Political watchers say the new dynamics being worked out by the CYSSS and AISA at the bidding  of their senior party leaders is aimed at upsetting the cart of ABVP and NSUI both who have dominated DUSU polls since ages.

Though a formal announcement in this regard is yet to be made but AISA and CYSS  have started their campaign in the campus. Sources said, leaders of both the student wings have met to chalk out their strategy and also the seat sharing arrangement. , AISA cadres  have already staged protests and have started campaigning in the varsity campus by taking the students' issues such as metro fare hike, passes for students in Air Conditioned buses of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses, hostel rent and so on.

CYSS has become active in the DU for the last weeks after the AAP leadwership reportedly gave the go ahead to its students wing  to test DUSU waters.

According to sources, ten days ago, a meeting was also held between the senior leaders of both the wings and a final meeting has also been lined up in the next two three days to take the final call over the DUSU elctions.

“We will welcome such alignment with AAP to fight the two rich brats (ABVP and NSUI) who have done nothing for the students in the last four years except fooling the minds of the students and doing rowdygiri in the varsity. Our student wing is active in the colleges and university who always work on the students issue but did not turn up on the political stage. So, AISA welcome such move to win the election this time,” said a senior member of AISA.

Meanwhile on the other hand, CYSS has also un-officially confirmed that they are planning for an alignment to make the upcoming DU election a history as both AISA and CYSS has never won a seat in the varsity student election. “We are expecting notification from the University for the Panel Finalization on 24. So, after that we will announce the alignment of secular forces for the student polls to the public and fellow students,” said  a CYSS member.

The student poll in the Delhi University is expected to schedule between seventh to 14th September.
