Burglars broke into Former Aam Aadmi Party MlA and party’s candidate from Shalimar Bagh Bandana Kumari’s residence and decamped with Rs5 lakh in cash and valuables worth Rs14.5 lakh. The incident took place in North West Delhi’s Shalimar Bagh area. The stolen money was party’s funds that the AAP had raised during its fundraising campaigns in various parts of the city. Police suspect the involvement of an insider who knew where the money was kept.
According to the police, the incident was reported around 11pm when Bandana Kumari reached her residence. She found the door ajar and the house ransacked. The former MlA told the police that burglary might have been carried out between 8pm and 11pm when no one was at home. At that time, she was busy with party meeting and her husband went out to fetch their son from coaching class. The thieves managed to make off with cheques, cash and jewellery from the house. The thieves broke open three locks of the house.
The party is really saddened by the incident as their hard earned money has been stolen. Surprisingly there are no CCTV cameras in the area. A case has been registered at Shalimar Bagh police station. Further investigations are on. An AAP spokesperson said, “Nearly Rs12 lakh in cheques and Rs5 lakh in cash was stolen. The money was raised through our fundraising meets. The chances of a volunteer stealing the money are very unlikely but if so then serious action will be taken by the party.”
