Resentment has started brewing in Gautam Buddh Nagar unit of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) after reported finalisation of Manvir Bhati by the party’s the central committee as a candidate of Gautam Buddh Nagar parliamentary constituency.
Not pleased with selection of the aspirants, scores of party workers protested at party headquarters in Delhi on Sunday night. They were demanding selection of candidate with consultation with district unit. Sources said that the unit has also written a letter on Monday night and urged to prepare a list of four names of short listed candidates for deliberation. Over 200 candidates have applied for the ticket from the district.
The party workers said that they are fed up with the procedure of selection of candidates by the central leadership for various seats. The top leaders have been choosing names without consulting with the party members of the concerned seat which is highly undemocratic. The AAP workers claimed Bhati, a president of the Kisan Sangharsh Samiti (KSS), shared a nexus with a senior party leader so his candidature was definite but that he had little support from Gautam Buddh Nagar constituency. “We have lodged our protests at central level several times and if the senior leaders select candidate by violating the norms they will have to face ire of the local workers. The way 20 names were announced earlier is highly undemocratic and show monopoly of a few party leaders,” said a ticket aspirant from the seat, on condition of anonymity.
