AAP told to come clean on dirty dredging

Accusing AAP MlAs of playing ‘dirty politics’ rather than paying focusing on new development projects,  BJP’s National Secretary and ex-MlA RP Singh on Thursday condemned the proposed re-inauguration of the development work undertaken by Delhi Jal Board (DJB) for the last three months in Rajendra Nagar Vidhan Sabha’s Inderpuri ward.

Meanwhile the leader of Delhi BJP legislative Party Vijender Gupta has urged Delhi’s lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung to direct the Delhi Government to immediately appoint the lokayukta and Deputy lokayukta. “I myself had inaugurated on January 10 the development work of laying deep sewer trunk line in Inderpuri ward for Todapur village, Krishi Kunj and Inderpuri,” ex-MlA Sardar RP Singh said.

Nearly half the work has been completed in last three months but suddenly the present MlA arranged the re-inauguration of the half complete project through Jal Board, he added. Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has been invited to inaugurate.

Singh said that AAP Government and MlAs embroiled in organisational strife instead of working on new development projects are playing dirty politics of putting up their nameplates on projects already approved or started by BJP MlAs of earlier tenure.

Gupta has said that as per Constitutional requirements, it’s mandatory to appoint a new lokayukta within six months of creation of a vacancy. As per norms, the lieutenant Governor appoints the lokayukta on the recommendations of a committee which includes the Chief Justice of Delhi, leader of the main Opposition party and a Government nominee.

Delhi however, awaits the appointment of a lokayukta and Deputy lokayukta ever since the last lokayukta demitted office in November 2013. During his earlier brief tenure as Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal raised a hue and cry over lokpal but did nothing to appoint a lokayukta. For the last 18 months, the office of the lokayukta lies vacant.

“For the past two months, Arvind Kejriwal is again in power. Delhi Government has distributed Government facilities to 53 of its 67 MlAs, appointed his close volunteers to various Government boards. The anti-corruption hotline contract has been given to his favourite company but the Delhi Government continues to remain silent on the appointment of a lokayukta for Delhi,” Gupta added.

Gupta has said it appears the Kejriwal dispensation fears appointing a lokayukta because in less than two months, they have four MlAs, including Minister Jitendra Singh Tomar, facing penal action once the lokayukta takes cognisance of their matters. It seems the Kejriwal Government, which talks a lot on anti-corruption, dithers on lokayukta appointment fearing indictment of its MlAs, added Gupta.
