The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will launch a one month mega campaign against the BJP-ruled municipal corporations for failing to ensure sanitation in the city. Delhi Convenor Gopal Rai on Tuesday said that the party’s ‘Aapka Vidhayak Aapke Dwar’ programme will commence on September 1 and 2,500 meetings will be conducted with the residents to understand their problems and discuss how to make Delhi free of corruption and garbage.
Rai said that Delhiites gave several chances to the BJP in the MCD but in return the BJP’s councillors gave only garbage and corruption back to Delhi. “In a span of 15 years, a mountain of garbage piled up in the city. Our Prime Minister unveiled the Swachh Bharat Mission yet the BJP’s councillors and Mayor failed to deliver,” he said.
“We took this decision to launch a mega campaign to make Delhi free from corruption and garbage. The first phase of this campaign will run from September 1-30. In this one-month-long campaign, 2,500 meetings will be conducted. Under this program, all AAP MLAs will visit localities in various Vidhan Sabha Assemblies to undertake meetings with the people. All these meetings will be taken following the Covid-19 guidelines,” he added.
However, Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor accused the AAP of running a political agenda, saying that it has no interest in improving civic services but to grab power in civic bodies.
“The AAP is indulging in dirty politics to defame Municipal Corporations.
The Government should focus on improving the water supply and sewerage services which have collapsed due to corruption in the Delhi Jal Board. Even today, the Delhi High Court has sought a reply from the DJB on its accounts balance sheets since 2015,” he added.
“The Kejriwal Government is today answerable to the people on charges of corruption in the new liquor policy, the DTC bus purchase and scams in the Delhi Jal Board. To divert public attention from these serious allegations on its Government now, the AAP is trying to mislead the people by leveling baseless allegations against Municipal Corporations,” he said.
“Gopal Rai is a Minister in the Delhi Government and if he really wishes to improve civic services he should shed political bias and make his Delhi Government release long withheld municipal funds,” he added further.
