The Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) chief spokesperson Saurabh Bhardwaj has alleged that the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) has increased the annual fees for collecting medical waste and with the decision doctors in the city will have to pay Rs 30,000 annually now.
The AAP has demanded a rollback of the irrational fees and taxes. A signature campaign was started by the AAP on Thursday to raise its voice against the EDMC’s decision.
Bhardwaj said that doctors will now have to pay an additional fee of Rs 24,000 annually for the removal of the garbage. “Each doctors’ clinic will now have to pay Rs 30,000 annually to the EDMC for garbage removal as an additional fee of Rs 24,000 has been introduced alongside the previous annual fee of Rs 6,000,” he said.
The AAP’s chief spokesperson further said that after “looting” traders with manifold taxes and licence fees, doctors are the new target. The EDMC has also introduced a professional tax to be levied on professionals like CAs, architects, doctors etc.
He further said that it was ridiculous and condemnable that the EDMC has stooped to looting people with irrational taxes and fees.
